Big changes are coming to Medicaid — called Medical Assistance here in Minnesota — and many of the 1.2 million Minnesotans enrolled will need to take action to keep their coverage.
Here's the short version: starting January 1, 2027, many adults will need to document 80 hours a month of work, school, or volunteering — and renew their coverage every six months instead of once a year. More changes follow in 2028.
The biggest risk isn't just the new rules — it's people losing coverage they qualify for because they didn't know, or got tripped up by paperwork. That's where you come in: please share this post with others who may be unaware, so our neighbors in need know what's coming.
A few resources worth sharing:
- DHS's information page — full details on the new eligibility requirements.
- MNsure navigators — free, in-person help with applications and renewals.
- County or Tribal Human Services — where renewals are processed.
We'll be watching this issue closely — because family economic security is a core pillar of our work.
