The Joint Religious Legislative Coalition is the most expansive and inclusive bi-partisan, multi-issue group of its kind in Minnesota using faith-based values to advance the common good. Representing three of the largest faith communities in the state – Catholics, Protestants, and Jews – we uniquely build consensus and find common ground while advocating for targeted policy recommendations based on our policy pillars:

Human Dignity | Families | Public Life

We value the human dignity of each person and insist upon laws and policies that protect the wellbeing of all people, especially those who are poor and vulnerable.

Policy Objectives:

Help ensure dignity
Ensure access to basic human necessities including:
- Food
- Clean water
- Shelter
- Safety

Safeguarding/Promoting Family Economic Security and Wellbeing

We recognize the critical role of all families, including those that choose to make the important contribution of raising the next generation and creating a stable, healthy society.

Policy Objectives:

Protect families from falling into poverty and help them build assets
Remove marriage penalties from state statute
Enable better access to childcare for working families
Provide access to high quality early childhood education
Provide caregiver leave to allow family members to take care of each other

Fostering Responsible Participation in Public Life

We understand the indispensable role of religious communities to speak out effectively when our institutions or policies drift away from justice. We see politics as a public service carried out in civic friendship to overcome a sometimes polemic society.

Policy Objectives:

Involve more people of faith to participate in the political process
Encourage our legislators to work together respectfully and engage in politics as an act of service not domination
Jointly promote the development of “common ground for the common good”
