Justice We Pursue

A Little Summer Road Tripping!

HermannTraveling around Minnesota is the best part of working for JRLC. I always look forward to road trips, especially during the long, last days of the legislative session.

Without a doubt we live in the greatest state—an incredible variety of stunning topographies and, everywhere, gifted and generous people doing heroic things for the betterment of our communities.

Yesterday Alison Killeen and I met with JRLC District Leaders in North Mankato and New Ulm. What a pleasure it is to spend time with Rebecca Perreault and Sister Anna Marie Reha. Each brings a deep faith perspective and passion for justice to this interfaith policy work. The work of JRLC District Leaders is truly heroic in the sense that organizing for justice is both bold and courageous, two attributes of heroism.

Another definition of heroic comes from the world of sculpture where it means "larger than life, but not colossal." Nearly every MInnesota town has its plaster loon, turkey, walleye, deer, bear or other "world's largest something." New Ulm has the unrivaled statue of Herman the German presiding over New Ulm, one of the great landmarks of our state.

It's good to get around the state again. We are preparing several trips this summer to meet and plan with our District Leaders. I'm so ready. And we're going to International Falls! Hey, Patricia, Nancy, Tom, and Patrice, you ready?

Do you want JRLC to come to you?  Invite us to host a forum or advocacy training at your congregation, or email Alison about becoming a district leader.  See you this summer!
