Justice We Pursue

Looking for the Pot of Gold

Thursday evening. The legislature actually adjourns before dark and the Capitol Western facade is bathed in horizontal light leaking from a dark bank of clouds to the west. Looking behind, eastward, it is still raining.

Hundreds of faithful citizens had just finished an Invest in Minnesota: Raise Revenues rally and impromptu press conference outside the House chamber vying for the attention of media and lawmakers. Another rally. Considering the alternatives, there is nothing left to do but once again lift up voices for people not usually heard. We need revenues or people with the least will get kicked in the gutter again.

Down the second flight of steps I catch up with Rep. Phyllis Kahn, the legendary 19-termer. We both turn back knowing there must be a rainbow arcing over the Capitol dome.

Indeed, there it is. Pausing for a moment, Rep. Kahn enjoys the sky and then instructs two young staffers walking nearby, "Go get the pot of money, we could use it!"
