We've been part of the very effective Save GAMC coalition and we thank our Bemidji-Area District Leader, Rev. Bill Beyer, for talking to the press, inspiring the rotunda crowd (pictured right), and testifying before the House committee. The bill to save GAMC is moving through committees and we hope to see floor action as early as this week in the Minnesota Senate. Thanks to Office for Social Justice and Take Action Minnesota and Legal Services Advocacy Project for their great work too!
JRLC Vigil for the recipients of GAMC - February 18, 2010, 1:00 pm. Join JRLC staff and advocates outside the Governor's office on Thursday, February 18th, for an interfaith vigil shining a light on the loss of care to the most vulnerable citizens in Minnesota. We will say prayers for those whose healthcare may be cut, we will light (electric) candles in their honor, and we will pass out tea lights to legislators. GAMC is a profound issue of life and death for thousands of our neighbors--we intend to emphasize the gravity of the situation in a thoughtful, hopeful, and intentional way.
The JRLC Office is Moving! Not very far though — just 16 feet down the hall. The Minnesota Church Center is willing to continue to refer to our new space as Suite 315 so we don't have to reprint letterhead or change anything else. Our new space will be about 400 square feet smaller and we will save about $3,000 annually by moving into a smaller space. However, we will have a couple thousand dollars of one-time moving costs and new fixtures, including much more energy-efficient lighting. Can you make a special one-time gift to help defray our moving costs? Sure would be helpful. Donate here. Thanks!
