A big welcome to Dr. Fatma Reda who has joined the JRLC Board representing the Islamic Center of Minnesota. Dr Reda is a physician and scholar in comparative religion and brings to us wonderful perspectives on interfaith relations, health care, and social justice.

Also, please welcome our new Advocacy Associate, Rachel Herzfeldt-Kamprath, who is serving through the Lutheran Volunteer Corps for one year. In 2008, Rachel graduated from Pacific Lutheran University, where she double majored in Political Science and Global Studies. You will be hearing from Rachel in the days ahead!

Facebook: Stay informed on JRLC issues, events, and advocacy opportunities by signing up to be a fan of JRLC on Facebook (www.facebook.com/JRLCMN). We feature dynamic updates about the work we are doing, and ways you can get involved. You can also be a fan of iCAN, our Interfaith Children's Advocacy Network as well.

JRLC visits CHUM in Duluth: Thanks to Jim Soderberg and Elizabeth Olson from CHUM for convening a meeting about the cuts to General Assistance Medical Care. Plans are being forged for meetings with legislatures. Watch for more information on action steps you can take to reverse the cuts. We are grateful to CHUM and St. Stephen's and other faith communities for their great organizing work on this issue.

We have about 10 Children's Sabbath Resource books for 2009 in our office. They are free to Minnesotans, complements of our partnership with Children's Defense Fund-MN. Reply to us with your mailing address if you want one. If you want more information, please see our website.

Contest winner: Thanks to all who entered our August contest by either donating to JRLC or emailing your entry. The winner of the two, front-row tickets to the St. Paul Saints game was Rev. Dr. Joy Bussert! The donor of the tickets says we'll do this again next year.
