ORGANIZER (full-time; regular, exempt)



PURPOSE: To provide full-time organizing and interfaith social justice advocacy services to the constituents of the Joint Religious Legislative Coalition (JRLC), especially to the JRLC Legislative Network of volunteer leaders and advocates.  The JRLC is made up of the Minnesota Council of Churches, the Minnesota Catholic Conference, the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas, and the Islamic Center of Minnesota.



RESPONSIBILITIES: Specific responsibilities will be derived from a work plan developed with the JRLC Executive Director. Areas of responsibility include:

Network Development and Relationship Building
Build the infrastructure and political influence of our networks, providing needed organizing support to all volunteers, especially District Leaders and volunteer networkers.
Recruit new volunteer leaders and members, especially young adults and in strategic geographic areas.

Event Planning and Management
Manage our largest annual community gathering and legislative conference, Day on the Hill.
Help plan logistics of local training events, vigils, and forums.

Issue Campaigns
Increase the influence of JRLC at the Minnesota Legislature by calling our networks to prophetic actions, including vigils and communications.

Membership and Sponsorship Campaigns
Increase number of members, sponsors, donors and volunteers.
Improve earned income from members and sponsors through annual campaigns and renewals.

Network and Fundraising Communications
Produce e-newsletters, social media content, and reports for all JRLC constituencies, in conjunction with the Executive Director.
Work with Executive Director on all JRLC programming and fundraising efforts.

Advancing Faithful Citizenship
Teach Christian, Jewish, and Islamic understandings of social justice and God’s call to participate in community and build just structures. Deepen understandings of prophetic advocacy for all JRLC leaders and volunteers.

Intern, Volunteer, and Contract Supervision
Work with executive director to recruit, train and supervise contracted staff, interns, and volunteers.

Other Duties as Assigned

ACCOUNTABILITY: Accountable to the JRLC Executive Director.


QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree plus 1+ years of organizing experience.
Ability to work independently and manage workplan and volunteers.
Strong strategic planning skills.
Proven ability to produce polished and persuasive materials and communications.
Commitment to interfaith social justice work.
Aptitude for organizational advancement.
High level of competence with word processing, social networking, spreadsheet, desktop publishing, database management, and web content interface.
Ability to work in a collegial style with flexibility, creativity, and good humor.
Familiarity with and sensitivity to the constituencies of JRLC.
Grounded in a faith tradition. Knowledge of congregational life and volunteerism.
Occasional weekend, evening hours and in-state travel.
Valid driver’s license, vehicle and current auto insurance.

COMPENSATION:
Salary commensurate with experience. Health, dental, pension, disability, vacation, and holiday benefits as provided by the JRLC/Minnesota Council of Churches human resources policy.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS:
Normal office conditions. Extended deskwork, use of computer. This position works out of the JRLC office at 122 West Franklin Avenue Suite 315 in Minneapolis. Travel throughout Minnesota.
