Toxic Chemicals and Children's Health
Familes and congregations can take the lead in protecting children's health by minimizing children's exposure to toxic chemicals
Every day, we're surrounded by toxic chemicals that come from many sources, from industries to the cleaning products we use in our homes. Fetuses, infants, and young children are particularly vulnerable to the health risks associated with these chemicals because their bodies are still developing and may process pollutants differently.
To address the concerns posed by the chemicals we live with, and to teach people and and congregations practical ways to minimize toxic chemicals' impact on health, the Minnesota Council of Churches has created Healthy Homes-Healthy Congregations. Program staff are available to lead forums and give presentations on this topic, as well as provide resources for worship and education.
The goals of Healthy Homes- Healthy Congregations are consistent with iCAN's 2008 legislative goal of ensuring "the availability of affordable housing that is free...of toxic substances that affect children more adversely than adults."
