Wednesdays4Kids February 3

Taking a child, He set him before them, and taking him in His arms, He said to them, Whoever receives one child like this in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me does not receive Me, but Him who sent Me.

A Christian Text from Mark 9:36-37

Tomorrow, February 4, 2010 is the first day of the Legislative Session. Our elected officials will be meeting to begin their work, which this year will not be easy. That means that we will need your help more than ever to ensure that our legislators remember Minnesota’s children as they begin their work.

Are you ready for session to start?
iCAN would like to make sure that all of our advocates in Minnesota feel like they can effectively speak on behalf of the children in our state, and lobby for change at the legislative level. Here are a few tips on how you can Connect, Educate, and Advocate to make an impact this session.

Connect: Stay connected with iCAN this session for up-to-date information on issues, event and opportunities to take action. You can connect with iCAN through Facebook, click on the Become a Fan button at the top of the page to be a Fan. Be sure to keep your community connected as well, encourage others to sign up to receive Wednesdays 4 Kids and read our blog, Justice We Pursue.

Educate: Educate yourself on the issues facing children in Minnesota. Read our issue papers on Child Care AssistanceJuvenile JusticeWomen and ChildrenHealthcare, and more. You should also become familiar with our 2010 iCAN Legislative Agenda, to learn about the policies that we will be focusing on this year.

Advocate: This year we will need our advocates to be a strong voice for children. Read through our Tips for Successful Advocacy to get an idea of how to be an effective advocate. Consider being the Key Advocate for your congregation, and help others to become more engaged in advocacy work in your community.  Click here to read more about the program.

Take action today by sending your legislators an email welcoming them to session and thanking them for they work that they will be doing on behalf of children. Be sure to send them a copy of our 2010 Legislative Agenda so they are aware of the issue that matter to you.
