Wednesdays4Kids November 18

Each child is an adventure into a better life --an opportunity to change the old pattern and make it new.
- Hubert H. Humphrey

Thank you to our Key Advocates
Our Key Advocates around the state are the backbone of the advocacy work that the Interfaith Children’s Advocacy Network undertakes. Around the state we have about 400 Key Advocates who are dedicated to making their congregations and their state a better place for children. Our advocates help to coordinate the Children’s Sabbath in their congregations, participate in the April campaign to end child abuse and neglect, advocate on behalf of children in Minnesota, and make their congregations more welcoming places for children.

Our goal is to have a Key Advocate in every congregation in Minnesota, in order to be a strong unified voice for the children of Minnesota.

What you can do to help us meet our goal:

  • Become a Key Advocate in your congregation: Follow the link to learn more about the role of a Key Advocate and sign up to be the Key Advocate for you congregation.
  • Send this newsletter to a friend: Do you have a friend, colleague, or fellow congregant who is particularly concerned or dedicated to children’s issues? Forward this newsletter to them by following the link and encourage them to get involved.
  • Be a fan of iCAN on Facebook: Stay up to date on news and events concerning the status of our children by being a Fan or our Facebook Page. Simply click the “Become a Fan” button next to the name.

Tomorrow is the World Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse
The day, initiated by the Women's World Summit Foundation in 2000, aims to create a culture of prevention around the world by encouraging governments and community organizations to play more active roles in protecting children.

In our state Prevent Child Abuse Minnesota is inviting everyone working in the area of preventing child neglect and abuse to stop by their office and join them for cookies and milk (and coffee) and conversation. Their doors will be open Thursday, November 19, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at 1821 University Avenue, Suite 202-South, Saint Paul, Minnesota 55104, (651) 523-0099.

If you do not live in the metro area or are unable to attend, you can:

  1. Host your own milk and cookies event and talk with friends about issues of child abuse and neglect and how you can work to stop this in Minnesota. Learn more about child abuse in MN here.
  2. Send a note to your Legislators or call them urging them to support programs that provide high-quality care for young children, support and education for parents and caregivers, and pre-parenting education for youth. Click here to find your Legislator's contact information.
  3. Read our blog post about child abuse and neglect in Minnesota and leave a comment with your thoughts on the issue.
